Book Recommendation #2

For everyone who read my first book recommendation post, you have probably already discovered which reading medium works best for you. Now comes the fun part, the actual book recommendations!

I tend to gravitate toward genres like fantasy, romance, paranormal romance, and the occasional classic. But my very first recommendation is a series that holds a special place in my heart: The Princess Diaries.

This series sparked my love of reading. As a young girl, I deeply related to Mia Thermopolis and her feelings of being awkward, out of place, and unnoticed. Mia was nerdy, relatable, and far from the “perfect princess,” which made her feel real.

The novels themselves were quick, witty, and incredibly easy to get lost in. They balanced humour, heart, and teenage chaos in a way that kept me turning the pages. But what made the series even more memorable for me was the author behind it, Meg Cabot.

Meg Cabot has written an impressive range of books across different genres and age groups, but what has always stood out to me is her ability to keep her stories relevant and connected to the times. During the global pandemic, when many of us were stuck at home searching for comfort and familiarity, Cabot revisited the world of Princess Mia through a series of blog posts that continued the original story. Mia was experiencing the same uncertainty and challenges we were all facing, which made the character feel even more relatable years later.

The response to those blog posts was so positive that the continuation was eventually published as an official addition to the completed series.

Overall, I would rate The Princess Diaries series a solid 5/5. It is nostalgic, funny, comforting, and the perfect reminder that sometimes the books we read when we are younger stay with us forever.

You can find the series at your local bookstore or through retailers like Amazon, Indigo and Book Outlet Canada.
