If you clicked on this post, you’ve most likely stared at your bookshelf, picked up and dropped multiple books and ended up scrolling on your phone for hours. Trust me, I’ve done the same.
Reading slumps are normal! We all go through them, even your favourite booktuber goes through them from time to time. Sometimes life gets really busy, and you no longer feel interested in the books you have on your TBR or the book you picked up just isn’t vibing with your mood. On the bright side, you don’t have to force yourself to read through a 900-page novel to get back into reading.
Here are a few ways that helped me get out of my reading slump:
1. Pick an Easy, Fun Read
One of my biggest mistakes is pressuring myself to read the books on my TBR when I know I am clearly in the mood to read something else. Instead of forcuing yourself, try picking up a light novel, manga, comic book, web series or something that feels fun, effortless and fast-paced. That will help keep you engaged.
2. Try a Different Format
If a classic book feels overwhelming, try another medium. Audiobooks, comics, manga, manhwa and webtoons can make it easier to fall back into reading with their immersive visuals and audio.
3. Stop Forcing Books You’re Not Liking
You don’t have to finish a book just because you started it. I know DNFing (Did Not Finish) a book can make you feel uncomfortable, but sometimes it’s just not the right time to read that book. It’s better to put it down and maybe give it another chance next time, or even never come back to it. It’s okay to move on from a book. I know I’ve DNF’ed my fair share of books that were actually making my reading slump worse.
4. Read for Fun
Not everything you read needs to be life-changing. You can just read for the simple joy of being immersed in a new story.
That’s how I get out of a reading slump. I even recently made a video sharing the 3 books that got me out of my reading slump, including a beautifully illustrated manhwa, a cozy romance, and even a comic book that reminded me that reading can be fun again.
You can watch it here!

This was such a relatable post! I especially liked your reminder that we do not have to force ourselves to finish a book just because we started it. Trying a lighter format like manga, comics, or audiobooks is also a great way to make reading feel fun again instead of like a chore. I will definitely keep these tips in mind the next time I find myself in a reading slump!

I am definitely in a reading slump right now, and have been for quite some time… I have these old philosophy books I got from an old friend and have barely touched them. Your tips to get back into reading will definitely help, and I hope they’ll help push me to finish the book from my friend sooner rather than later!
